Aspects to considerer for a beach wedding
As dreamy and ideal as it may seem to have a beach wedding, planning a nontraditional venue still requires preparation and good organizational skills. From picking your dress, to getting sound and alcohol permits, we’ve gathered some of the most important aspects to consider when planning a beach wedding:
Let’s face it, a big dress will not only make you sweat more in sunny conditions, but it will end up collecting more sand and debris than memories. You need a dress suitable for summer-like weather conditions: sand, sun and sea. Opt for a lightweight fabric like chiffon or silk so your gown flows with the breeze and you can feel chic, comfortable and cool.
Long veils and high heels are also dress codes aspects you should consider ditching when planning a beach wedding. In the first place, if it’s windy, a long veil can be a nightmare for you and the photographer. Instead, try accessorizing with fresh flowers and beach natural waves. Also, high heels and sand don’t go together. Go for wedges (if you still want some extra height) or flats, anything that won’t sink into the sand.
- Get the permits and ordinances in order:
Each beach has its own rules and regulations. Research beforehand with the local government about the required paperwork and noise ordinance they have regarding events and gatherings.
Also, remember not all beaches are private, so unless you want the general public in attendance, you will most certainly need to apply for a special permit to privatize a section of the beach. The same goes for alcohol, bonfires and fireworks.
- Beach essentials for your guests:
A beach wedding means, well… a day at the beach; you need to provide your guests with the beach essential cares we are all familiar with. You must provide shade, offer refreshments, and especially water to prevent dehydration from the sun. Set up a table with ice water, lemonade and even consider providing sunscreen (especially for the kids) and a place to seat.
If reception will also take place at the beach, keep in mind it will get cold at night. Keep your guests warm by arranging a basket of cozy wraps and pashminas.
- Beat the sound of crashing waves:
The sound of crashing waves is loud, louder than you realize. A beach wedding needs a good sound system. Rent a wireless microphone and speakers for the ceremony, and if reception is also taking place at the beach, figure out beforehand good sound equipment and sound engineers. Do a sound check prior to the ceremony to ensure there’s no unwanted feedback.
- Have a backup plan:
Unfortunately, this is one of the most important aspects to take into account when preparing for a beach wedding. Weather is unpredictable so in case the forecast for that day is stormy, prepare an interior plan B not far from the original beach location.
